2008 Spring Newsletter

From the President

Dear Spooner Golf Club Members,

Welcome back for another season at Spooner Golf Club. I hope this letter finds you all in good health and ready to play.

The annual spring meeting will be held on May 14, 2008 at the clubhouse and hopefully we will see many of you there. Even with the weather delaying opening we are looking forward to a great year with new head bartender and head cook in the clubhouse and the course coming through the winter in great condition.

See you May 14

Sincerely,

John Schullo

From the Golf Shop

Spring is finally upon us and my staff and I are very excited about another great season here at SGC. The course looks great, the golf shop is fully stocked with all the biggest names in golf as well as specialty items to grab the attention of golfers and non-golfers alike, and hope runs eternal for some great summertime weather. With that being said the offseason was a great time to plan some exciting new programs and events for the 2008 season.

In 2008 we are going to build upon the programs that were in place in 2007 and put a new emphasis on making SGC the most family friendly golf facility in the area. We are doing this in many ways, first we are the only course in the area at this time that is part of the PGA Family Course program. This entails adding 2 shorter yardage tees on the front 9 to give another option to those who are not ready for a regulation length golf course while still offering a full golf round experience on a shortened golf course. Secondly, we are offering further reduced junior rates and rates for adults playing with a junior on lower traffic days and times. Lastly, along with Free Lesson Day in May I will be having a Free Family Lesson Day in July in recognition of PGA Family Golf Month and a Fun Family 9 hole Scramble also scheduled for July. We are also lowering our senior rate Monday through Thursday by $2 for 9 and 18 holes in hopes of drawing in more of the seasoned golfers looking to play at off peak times at a reduced rate.

As for all of you as members of SGC, you will continue to get a lower cart fee, access to purchasing a reduced green fee and cart punch card, and receive reduced tournament fees for all club sponsored events. New this year, members will receive a Spooner Golf Club member bag tag. These are scheduled to arrive in the next two weeks and will be handed out in the golf shop. Just a couple of reminders, if you are planning on carrying a handicap for the 2008 season please be sure to do so in the next few weeks and don't forget about the NEW Mother's Day 9 hole scramble tournament scheduled for May 11th at 3:30. For more information please stop by the golf shop or call.

Once again, my staff and I are committed to build upon previous years and offer an experince that exceeds the expectations of members and guests alike. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call, e-mail or stop by my office anytime. I'm hoping to see all of you soon and I look forward to another great summer at SGC.

Cordially,

Dave Torbenson, PGA Certified - Instruction

From the Grounds Facility

Thanks to mother nature for taking fine care of the course this past winter. While it seemed as if it took forever for spring to arrive the course came out of winter the best I could have hoped for.

The Green Committee this year consists of Chairman Mark Spease, Nancy Schaub, Gabe Gabriel, Duran Bjorklund, and Jamie Busch. I would personally like to thank them for their help, commitment, and support to the golf course.

This year you will find new bunker rakes and tee markers on the course. Last fall Steven Esser tilled and smoothed the rough on the right hand side of #5. We will be seeding this area in the coming weeks. We are also finishing up repair work from the cart path project completed last fall.

This spring the Finance Committee has been working on a plan to replace our irrigation system possibly as soon as this fall. This plan will be presented at the spring membership meeting. Member feedback through attendance at the meeting will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your continued support and I wish everyone a wonderful 2008 golf season,

Eric Ritter

From the Clubhouse

Hello, my name is Nadean Ramstrom. I am the new bar manager at Spooner Golf Club. For the past seventeen years, I worked at the Atlas Grill restaurant in Minneapolis. I retired January 1st of this year immediately became bored. Luckily, I landed this position and am very excited to meet all the members, general public, and hopefully will see some of my fabulous customers from the Grill. Good golfing and stop by and try one of my new drink specials.

Cordially,

Nadean Ramstrom
